Ambassador (ret.) Lawrence Silverman will moderate a discussion with representatives from the Korea Economic Institute of America, the Korean Embassy and the U.S. State Department on topics affecting Korea and the U.S. today. Some potential subjects: What is the future of South & North Korea relations? How does the increasing belligerence of North Korea and their nuclear program impact the Korean economy? How does the change in U.S. administrations change U.S. relations with South Korea? What are some things about Korean culture that might surprise many Americans? Are there notable differences with how business is conducted in Korea vs. the U.S.? Are there opportunities for Americans working for Korean companies in the U.S.?

Dr. Clint Work, Fellow and Director of Academic Affairs at the Korean Economics Institute of America (KEI) leads KEI’s University Outreach and conducts research, writing, and public engagement focused on US-Korea relations. Before joining KEI, Clint served as a Fellow in the Henry L. Stimson Center’s 38 North Program from 2020-2022, where he focused on issues related to US-ROK alliance transformation and led Congressional engagement about peace and security on the Korean Peninsula. He holds a Doctorate in International Studies from the University of Washington and a Master’s in International Relations from the University of Chicago, and his work focuses on the Korean Peninsula, US-Korean relations, East Asia, and US foreign policy.

Ms. Jiyoung Song, First Secretary in the Economic Section at the Korean Embassy in Washington, D.C., has worked for the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) since 2015. Previously, Ms. Song served as the Second Secretary in the Human Resources Management Division, Development Cooperation Policy Division, and Korea-Japan-China Trilateral Cooperation Division within the Ministry in Seoul. Ms. Song received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Relations from Yonsei University.

Dr. Moradeke (Mora) Bamgboye, is an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Science & Technology Policy Fellow on the Korea and Mongolia desk at the U.S Department of State. She oversees a portfolio that covers U.S – Republic of Korea cooperation on Environment, Science, Technology, Health, Food Security, Development, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Island Countries (PICs). Dr. Bamgboye received a Ph.D in Molecular Medicine from University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore (UMB), a Master’s in Public Health from UMB and a B.SC in Microbiology from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
