Belize: COVID-19 Impacts on Education, Healthcare, and the Economy

Belize, a tiny nation in Central America and the Caribbean, like most other countries in the world, has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This talk aims to describe the plight of the small nation from the angle of the pandemic’s effect on its economy and its education and healthcare systems. Over the one-year period of the pandemic, the country faced national and municipal elections and so a look will be taken at the effect of these two election cycles on the fight against the pandemic. A close look will also be made at the concrete measures taken by the country to fight the pandemic. The proposed next steps will be examined including a look at the introduction of vaccines and the wider post-COVID-19 plans.
