Argentina, a key global actor, has become a center of attention for foreign investors after the unexpected electoral victory of President Javier Milei. Argentina faces great challenges: rampant inflation, currency depreciation, and a sharp increase in poverty, accompanied by a rise in organized crime related to drug trafficking. But it benefits from support from the U.S., Europe and international financial institutions; it is rich in critical natural resources, a major food producer to the world, and a gateway to Antarctica. China and Russia are competing for influence in Argentina; President Milei talks about a strategic alliance with the U.S. The course of Argentina’s economic reform will affect this competition for influence. Professor Patricio Dellagiovanna, who is visiting Savannah as a member of an Argentinian Rotary delegation, will bring you real time analysis of all this and its significance for U.S. relations with South America more broadly.

Patricio Dellagiovanna is an International Relations professional and academic, who specializes in sustainable green development and international parliamentary cooperation. He holds a Master’s degree in International Relations of Europe and Latin America from the University of Bologna, where he was a fellow and resident researcher. He is also a PhD candidate in Medieval, Modern, Contemporary and American History at the University of Salamanca.

Currently, Patricio is a Project Development Coordinator at the Center for International Studies (CEI) of the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina (UCA), where he is also an assistant professor of Introduction to International Relations and History of International Relations. In addition, he is the Academic Director of the International Seminar on Parliamentary Diplomacy, an initiative that studies the role of legislative bodies in international relations.
