Is U.S. national security in jeopardy as Russia and China challenge both U.S. global leadership and the role of deterrence in preventing conflicts around the world? At this presentation you will hear an expert’s view on these challenges from a member of the U.S. Strategic Posture Commission, which concluded last year that the U.S. faces unprecedented threats from authoritarian regimes that are building up their military forces and behaving aggressively towards their neighbors. The Commission cited as the most pressing challenges the Chinese program to add 1,000 strategic nuclear weapons to their arsenal, Russian behavior in Ukraine, and the mutual support between Russia and China.

How should the next U.S. Administration address these threats and concerns? What does this mean for the U.S. nuclear posture, for our alliances, and for defense spending? Please join us for a discussion of these issues by The Honorable Madelyn Creedon, former principal deputy administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration, former assistant secretary of defense for global strategic affairs, and current senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.

Presented by Madelyn Creedon, former Principal Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Energy Department’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Former Assistant Secretary of Defense for global strategic affairs, and Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution.
